TRANSPORTATION

How far are you from Chicago?
About a 5 hour drive south.
About 2-1/2 hours east of St Louis
About 2 hours west of Indianapolis, IN

Are there any close airports?
NO
Indy is about 2-1/2 hours away from Oblong to the East.
Plus there is NO traffic getting in and out of the airport.

St Louis Airport is about 2-1/2 hours away from Oblong to the West.
Harder to get into and out of.

Is there a bus / train etc to get from the airport to oblong?
There is a train from Chicago to Effingham, Illinois. The ride is about 6 hours.
And then it is about 1 hour by car from Effingham to Oblong.

LODGING
We do not offer any bed & breakfast in the area.

Camping
Camping is available at the city park, right where Metal Meet will be held.
We offer pull thru camp sites with electric and water.
We have a dump station on the grounds for you.
Pets are allowed, but must be kept on a leash. (City Ordinance)
Showers and water are turned on from April 1 to October 31.
You may camp after these dates with no water available.
Nightly rates are $10 per night, and we use the honor system for paying.
You can drop your payment in the drop slot at the bathrooms.

Are there many motels in town?
Yes, it is called Union Suites.

Here is a list of close by motels.

 

I would try the Oblong Union Suites first. Some guys stayed at it last year.
And they really liked it.
Then Arvin and then River Park Motel.
